Disaster Relief | Houston & Florida
By now we've all witnessed the impact Hurricane Harvey has had on Texas, and Hurricane Irma has had on Florida. Chances are, many of us personally know someone effected by the storms and flooding. As followers of Christ we are called to serve those around us. We aren't able to do everything, but we can all do something. In these times of crisis it's most clear that we truly are better together. Below are some ways that we can be the church and respond to this crisis.
Never underestimate the power of prayer (see James 5:13-18). Commit to spending time each day praying for those who have been affected. Pray specifically for our church partners at Bayou City Fellowship in Houston and Christ Fellowship in Miami. Both churches are serving as major staging areas for the American Red Cross & Southern Baptist Disaster Relief. Pray for provision, endurance and that the name of Jesus is lifted high during this difficult time. Pray too that God would reveal how He may be calling you to help. And ultimately, pray that people would be pointed to Jesus, even amidst such hardship.
As a church, Rolling Hills has given financial support to Samaritans Purse, Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, Bayou City Fellowship and Second Baptist Church in Houston. As we continue talking with contacts on the ground in these areas, one reoccurring need we hear about are gift cards. Gift cards are easy to transport and distribute, and can easily be applied to areas of greatest need. Home Depot, Lowes and Wal-Mart gift cards are the greatest needs. If you would like to donate a gift card we will be collecting them at Next Steps this Sunday. Or if you would like to give online, we have created a new "disaster relief" fund on our giving page where you can designate gifts that will be used to help people rebuild their lives.
We are planning short-term mission trips to Houston and Florida. Though we are still working through the details. If you would like to receive more information about joining either team, please complete this interest form.
We plan to address these response efforts in more detail at the conclusion of our worship services this Sunday.
